Activities

Roatan has many interesting villages, and beautiful panoramic views from its high hills. But most of Roatan’s attractions are located within a short distance from our cabana, around the Sandy Bay and West End area. Our on site rental agent will help you access any of these attractions.

Take a walking tour of West End, with its rustic laid-back bars, cafes and restaurants, teeming with life.

For a different experience, take a 5 minute water taxi from West End to the village of West Bay, which has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Here you will also find a relaxing, but perhaps more upscale environment.

Swim with the dolphins at Anthony’s Key Resort (AKR).

Visit the Carambola Botanical Gardens located just across the road from AKR. Take one or both of its two trails, the jungle and the mountain trail.

Snorkel anywhere, but try the Natural Aquarium Snorkel Trail, an underwater snorkeling trail at the Bay Islands Beach Resort next door to Sundancer, just a few minutes away. Several buoys mark the trail to guide you, enabling you to see many types of marine life.

The Roatan Butterfly Garden, close to West End village is a must see. You’ll find colorrful butterflies, tropical fruit and nut trees, and exotic flowers.

Check out the The Coral Reef Explorer, Glass Bottom Boat tour, from West Bay beach and the mangrove tour from Jonesville or Oak Ridge.

No holiday on Roatan is complete without a trip to the Hole in the Wall, an out of the way, off-beat and immensely popular waterside restaurant. Book your seats early!

DIVING

Most of the dive shops are located in West End. Usually they are PADI certified and all have experienced divemasters.

They offer certification courses, as well as the standard diving fare, at very reasonable rates. Many dive sites are a 10 minute boat ride away.

The dive environments are diverse, offering fantastic dives for the novice and the experienced diver. You will find shallow reefs, and steep walls dropping down several hundred feet. There are swim-throughs leading to breathtaking drop-offs. 
The marine life is abundant. Roatan divemasters are especially proud of the many varieties of rare, delicate and tiny marine species found in their waters.

For your convenience, the dive shop at the Bay Islands Beach Resort will pickup divers from our cabana, provided at least four persons are diving. Please see our rental agent to  arrange this.
